Organization

Want to know a little secret?

I’m terrible at being organized!  I’m pretty sure it has been at the top of my New Year’s Resolution list for at least the last 10 years. When I was a teenager, my parents were always getting on my case for my room being messy. My senior year of high school my dad would walk by my room and just shut the door, they had given up all hope on me!

But, as you may know, being organized can be super important when it comes to crushing your goals, no matter what they are. It’s one of the first things you will want to do when making a game plan on how to meet those goals.

Step 1 for many of my clients when starting my 8 week plan is to organize their kitchen. They need to throw out (or donate) all the food that might tempt them away from staying on plan and make sure their fridge and pantry are ready for success. This might mean they need to make more room for supplements or even make sure they have all the essential cooking equipment before their plan starts.

When we moved into our first home close to 18 years ago, I had one toddler and it seemed like more than enough room for the 3 of us. I loved having a U-shaped kitchen that was easy to clean and everything had its place. Fast forward 14 years and 3 more kids later…..holy hanna…..not only was my kitchen super cramped, but my kids just put things back wherever they felt like it. Every few months, I tried to regroup and organize it to make the best use of the space possible, but it seemed like absolutely nothing worked. NOTHING.

To say this was my least favorite part of my house was an understatement. One day during the summer, all my kids had been home and made a giant mess of the pantry and I went full blown TAWANDA and just started throwing bags of food out of the pantry. I ended up a few minutes later in tears on the floor just wallowing in my organizational nightmare of a pantry.

A few months later I met a professional organizer (who knew there was such a thing) named Jenny from the happy gal blog (https://thehappygal.com) who offered to come help organize a space in my house…I instantly thought of my poor pantry…my little teeny tiny pantry stuffed with half bags of chips, open boxes of cereal and a million crumbs. That was it….I wasn’t sure if Jenny was up for the challenge.

Let me tell you, not only was she up for the challenge, but she was SO excited to see how messy my pantry was. As you can see from the video we made, I was mortified. Also super embarrassed because I couldn’t get a grasp on it. Not only does Jenny create a much prettier pantry for me, but has a fool proof organizational system that you can do yourself.

This did not happen in an hour, or even two hours. It took us about 8 hours to go through all the steps and how to get my pantry in tip top shape. Check out the video we made!
